--- title: Azure Cloud Shell release notes description: This article lists the new features and changes released in Azure Cloud Shell. ms.date: 09/18/2026 ms.topic: release-notes --- # Azure Cloud Shell release notes The following article outlines the changes to Azure Cloud Shell. Changes can include new or updated features and tools, security updates, and bug fixes. Cloud Shell regularly updates Azure CLI and Azure PowerShell, including breaking change releases. For more information about upcoming breaking changes, see the following articles: - [Upcoming breaking changes in Azure PowerShell][10] - [Azure CLI upcoming breaking changes][07] For a tool to be included in Cloud Shell, it must meet certain criteria. For security compliance, tool packages become deprecated when they're no longer actively maintained. There's usually a 30-day notice before a package is removed from the image. We can remove a package sooner if there's a security vulnerability or other critical issue. For more information about the package inclusion criteria, see [Cloud Shell Package inclusion guide][12]. You can install any tool you need in your Cloud Shell session as long as it doesn't require root access. For installation instructions, consult the documentation for the package you require. ## September 2026 Tool updates - Azure CLI upgraded to v2.90.0 - Azure Developer CLI upgraded to v1.32.0 - Azure Functions Core Tools CLI upgraded to v4.14.0 - Azure PowerShell upgraded to v16.3.0 - `azcopy` upgraded to v10.33.0 - Bicep CLI upgraded to v0.46.1 - CLI for Microsoft 365 upgraded to v11.11.0 - GitHub CLI upgraded to v2.97.0 - Inspektor Gadget (`ig`) upgraded to v0.55.0 - istioctl upgraded to v1.31.0 - kubectl upgraded to v1.37.0 - Node.js upgraded to v24.18.1 - `npm` upgraded to v11.16.0 - PostgreSQL upgraded to v16.15 - rsync upgraded to v3.5.0 - Terraform upgraded to v1.16.0 ## August 2026 As of August 7, 2026, the classic user interface has been removed from all regions. ## July 2026 As of July 27, 2026, we removed the classic Cloud Shell user interface in most regions.
